The starter complements calf feeding from 3–5 days of age and helps provide a balanced feed ration during the early growth stage. Soybean sprouts, rapeseed meal, cereals, sugar beet pulp, peas, molasses, and dextrose provide energy and nutrients, while vitamins, trace elements, and bentonite enrich the composition with substances important for calves. Daily use of starter feed helps prepare calves for weaning from milk.

Starter feed for calves should be offered starting from 3–5 days old, beginning with 100 g per day and gradually increasing the amount. Fresh starter feed and free access to fresh drinking water must be provided every day. The calf is ready to be weaned off milk when it has doubled its birth weight and consumes at least 1.5–2 kg of starter feed per day.
